Smoke alarm saves the day for local pub
A smoke alarm is to thank for preventing a fire at a North Cowichan Pub from getting out of hand Friday morning. North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP and the North Cowichan Fire Department, were alerted to a fire at the Oak and Carriage Pub on Cowichan Lake Road at around 4 a.m. When they arrived on the scene, there was smoke coming out of a door on the east side of the building. Fire crews were quickly able to put out the flames and all residents living above the Pub were safely evacuated from the building. Cpl. Greg Pask said in a release it was the smoke alarm that alerted the alarm company, and the restaurant manager that a fire had started. He added, ” This incident may serve as a reminder for all home and business owners to check the condition of their smoke alarms and ensure they are in proper working order” A fire investigator determined that the fire was not suspicious in nature, but the cause of the fire is still unknown. |
